Heritage Prairie Wind

Welcome to the Heritage Prairie Construction Updates page.

Heritage Prairie Wind is a wind energy generation facility in western Kankakee County and northeastern Livingston County, Illinois. The project was developed by Pattern Energy and Repsol Renewables North America and is now in construction, being built by Mortenson Construction. 

Once operational, the facility will generate enough energy to power the equivalent of 180,00 homes, bringing reliable energy and lasting economic benefits to the region.

Project Schedule

Heritage Prairie Wind is currently in construction. The schedule below outlines the project’s key phases, from development through commercial operations. We will post regular updates as construction progresses. 

Development: 2018 to 2026 

Construction: Began June 2026, with completion targeted for 2027.

Commercial operations: Expected in 2028.  Construction takes place in phases across the project area, and a project of this size typically takes 18 to 24 months to build.
